Timing sprocket gear loose against cam key.

So I'm installing my new timing chain and gears and the cam sprocket is loose and has play against the cam key so I thought maybe the key was too small I took off my old timing chain gear and it fits snug on the cam and key well as a tiny tiny bit of play but nothing like the new one?
Should I just use the old cam gear with the new timing chain and crank sprocket?
