I have some rims that have been sand blasted and want to keep them from getting rusty on the inside as well as the outside, Ideas on if I used a high heat say like engine paint and then put them in an oven and heated them for a while, would that make the paint work/last better? Thanks!

Pretty sure all that would do is speed up the dry time and probably get you in trouble with the Wife. (ask me how I know)

You can use metal prep on the rims before you paint them. This will help with the paint adhesion. Heating them will only dry the paint faster. 65'

What color and type of paint are you going with?

I painted the steelies on my Duster black with Rustoleum's Appliance Epoxy paint and they've held up beyond what I would expect from a rattle can due to how hard the paint dries. But like anything, it doesn't matter how hard the paint dries if the paint doesn't stick due to poor prep.

VHT high heat paint, follow the directions. You usually can find an old scrap oven on the side of the road if you look hard enough, I know I did, I got 2 of them.

a lot of the high heat products require you to bake them for hours in thermal cycles for correct cure.

with the modern paints available i think there are better options, and pricing (have you *seen* the price of VHT lately?!?).

if you're not particular about color, appliance epoxy will cure tough as nails. for plain finishes of black you can't go wrong with pretty much any flavor of chassis paint.

rustoleum industrial black is always a favorite. it's cheap, wears well and can be touched up easily if you catch a curb or some debris.

as mentioned, prep is key.

Wipe them down with "Grease and Wax Remover", and or "Acetone" before you paint them. Paint them, and set them out in the sun. That's as much baking as you can get without an oven.

I chose to paint my rims as my wheel covers will be on and off through the years , scratching them. It will be easier to touch them up.

I have done many, many, sets as I used to work close to quite a,few You-Pull-It Yards.
And I hit them regular for things to resell to feed my Mopar Addiction and keep.
Here is a link to a,set a posted on another site I kept. Wow almost been 4 years now since I posted it.
I blast, clean, epoxy prime, prime, sand, prime, sand, paint and let mother nature's sun cure the single stage with hardener.

The rims will be black. I have 3 junk ovens I use for load banks on generators so no being killed by wife which I don't have anyway.
Thank you All for your thoughts on this
