Maybe but at the heart of it I don't think so. A hot rod and a factory engine have to produce the same power to move a vehicle at 60 mph or whatever.
I suspect its because parts don't match and the systems don't do what they need to do under all conditions. The more improvements that were made, the more likely this is.
