The pressed in type have a "stem" that presses into the pushrod tube. There's no way it can come out, even if it loses its press fit. Of course, that wouldn't be optimal, but it's got no place to go. There's not enough room for it to fall out. Welded on ends on the other hand can break and fall right off.
