Yeah, the '89 had the same gouges as yours.

Working here outside in the Sunshine State with limited tools. Reached inside the box side from underneath with a 1/2" drive 12" long extension and pounded out the gouges with a 3 lb. hammer.

Got it back close, it had a tear opening it it. Cleaned It up with sand paper and filled it with "Duraglas" waterproof filler from the outside to level it back up.

Available on ebay ^^^ gallons.

Sanded, primed, and painted with aerosol can products from local parts stores.

Going to seal it from the inside underneath with catalyzed black paint.

Nice work! I was looking at that duraglass for my dart. I was gonna use it for the sail panel roof joint I've read it's better than regular plastic fillers for larger repairs because it's reinforced with fiberglass. I was gonna use the all metal stuff but it's more expensive and I've read alot of reviews that it's alot harder to sand and shape.
