Not sure how this will go

I strongly suggest that you measure everything before you buy anything. In 50 plus years of it's existence there's no telling what may have been done to your engine and it's components. Be prepared to spend a lot of money getting it done right, but in doing so you can expect to get a lot of driving and enjoyment out of it. From what you've described it sounds like someone just threw a pile of parts together and hoped for the best.
