new BBP A body 8&3/4 axles/tapered bearings/lock collar. can I assemble all this myself or do I need to take em in to a shop? thank you for your time. RR

ideally, you'll need a press for the bearing and retaining collar. however, i've seen it done with a long length of appropriately sized pipe.

You must also cut the retainer collar and break apart the rollers by hand before you press the old one off. I don't see how you can remove/install w/o a press.

I assume all new parts? Just remind the machine shop to install the bearing retainer before pressing the bearing on!

OK I will take it in, thanks a bunch guys. RR
Or just buy your own shop press. One good enough for a home shop won't cost that much. I think mine's a 10 ton, have had it for several decades, only use it once every couple of years, but it has paid for itself several times over.

I would usually be in the camp that chants "buy American" or as American as you can, but in an instance such as this, go harbor freight. Its a frame with a 20 ton jack and springs.
