Oil pump drive shaft and gear installation?

So just to be clear they should just drop in for the most part till it makes contact with the cam gear?

I've got the motor at #1 TDC on the compression stroke, so I am attempting to align the pump shaft/ distributor gear so it is facing towards cylinder #1.
Just drop it in and rotate as it makes contact with cam gear?
