There’s a lot I can do myself but like I said I don’t have the proper tools to work on daily drivers and hate doing so. Half the problem is I’m old, bad knees, no lift, and I work in a gravel driveway. Not fun.

I feel your pain. Wife and 3 kids. Sadly 2 now. They have never had a car in the shop except for tires. As you said. Keeps me from working on my stuff. I'm last in line. Most times outside as well. Winter sucks and when I get home from work in the summer the sun is right smack in the driveway. I'll be 66 in a couple of days. Getting too old to be the Family mechanic.
