Changing Heater Control Pins
67 A Body
Heater controls have a Nyloc nut to remove the plate. Note the spring washer.
69-76 Truck
Uses a metal spring clip with a keyway to remove the plate.
68 to 72 A Body
Used a plastic clip.
The pin replacement is the same for all 3 types.

To start, remove the nut, metal spring clip or plastic spring clip.
67 A Body
Remove the nut.
69 to 76 Truck
If you can have a helper compress the spring clip while you tap the edge with a flat screwdriver it will come off much easier but taping with the screwdriver worked for me.
Note the large opening on the keyway and the direction to tap the screwdriver
68 to 72 A Body
The black plastic retainer is a bit more complicated.
@seanner used 2 small screwdrivers to lift up 2 of the tabs, and another to lift the retainer up enough to get the 2 tabs over the lip on the shaft.
He repeated this for the other 2 tabs and the retainer came right off.
Once the clip is off you can lift the plate off.
Replace the pins. Be sure the orientation is correct.
67 A Body and 69 to 76 Truck
68 to 72 A Body
Put the plate back on and reinstall the retainer. Be sure to clean and lube the wear points.
67 A Body
Reinstall the Nyloc and washer, no need to over tighten the Nyloc, look on the other side and tighten till the threads look the same.
69 to 76 Truck
Align the spring clip keyway and if possible compress the spring clip (red arrow) while tapping the retainer onto the shaft. Having the shaft backed up on a hard surface will make it easier.
68 to 72 A Body
Press the retainer clip back on the shaft while backing up the shaft on a hard surface.
Reattach the cables, note the orientation of the wire, some orientations the wire will be at an angle and others it will be more straight. I prefer the straight orientation as it will put less stress on the parts.
