TTi shorty headers v ministarter

OK, I bought a heat shield for a 350 chevy ('cause they make everything for that and 302 Ford) and adapted it for my 360. See pic. Problem solved. Took it on a long drive, let her sit to heat soak good, starts right up. So, it was indeed the heat from the header cooking my little mini-starter.

So, even though I have the exact same configuration as Darter6 (see above), my engine is putting out more heat. Could be that it's a new build, could be that it's a fire-breathing 375 hp beast. Again, the timing is set correctly.

Anyway, onto my next issue...I fixed the rear china wall oil leak, and now I see one up front. I put a "diagnostic diaper" at the front of the oil pan and I'm seeing oil only on the passenger side. It's not coming from the heads or valve covers, no oil up top. But I do see oil on the front corner pan bolt. I checked the bolt, it's already tight. Doesn't appear to be any oil on the driver side of the pan. I'll do some more investigation, but it does not appear to be the timing cover gasket or crank seal.

Fun stuff. Thanks everyone for all the input. I do like that weld a bolt to the frame rail negative cable idea...I may just do that someday, save me some weight and well, it's just a cool idea.

Brian.

P.S. I absolutely HATE oil leaks. I've had engines not leak a drop before and I really appreciated it. My slant 6 was a leaker at the rear seal...drove me crazy. I had a Ford Pinto with a 302 4bbl in it from a junk yard pull - never leaked a drop.
