1968 Plymouth Valiant 2 door sedan street/strip Big Block project. $9,500 (Pictures are recent)
This is a package deal ONLY, I will not sell parts individually.
I bought this car to use as a parts car/mock-up car for converting another 68 Valiant drag car back to a street car. I am done with the mock-up phase and no longer have use for the red Valiant or the parts I am listing. The car and parts are a good start for putting together an 11 second drag car. First 7 digits of the VIN are VL21A8E. I have a clean Arizona title in my name, VIN tag is present and attached with original rivets, it matches the title.
Sale does NOT include the green car or the red hood. This car is a roller.
Body: The body is solid and straight with the exception of the rusty front floors and 3 small rust holes in passenger side rocker.. Some minor body work was started on the car. Replacement front floor pans have been temporarily installed in the car and are included. There is no gauge cluster in the car but I am including a sheet of flat stock to fabricate a gauge panel from. This was originally a slant 6 car. All the glass is good. Hood is steel with a fiberglass 6 pack style hood scoop.
This is a small bolt pattern car with a set of 4 SBP rally wheels. The car comes with a pair of aftermarket tubular upper control arms, spindles, 5 on 4 ½” rotors, calipers, and braided brake lines (not installed). Also included is an 8 ¾ rear axle housing (54” flange to flange (65-67 B body ?)), axles (5 on 4 ½” BC) and backing plates for 10” X 2 ½” brakes.
The big block K member is set up for spool mounts (mounts and brackets included). This is the same K member the engine was attached to in the drag car. K member is now installed in the car that is for sale. Included on the K Member is an aluminum manual steering box.
The transmission tunnel accepts the 727 and has also been enlarged to accept a 46RH/RE transmission. The piece of the crossmember that was cut out is included and can be welded back in or the crossmember can be reinforced and used with a 500/518 overdrive transmission.
Sale includes the engine (complete air filter to oil pan). 727 Torqueflite transmission with 3000 stall convertor. Stainless headers (with welded O2 sensor bung) and 3” exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. 20 gallon aluminum fuel cell with Holley in tank pump and wiring harness. Autometer 5” tach and mechanical oil and temperature gauges. Original bench seats, 1 aluminum JAZ racing seat, cover and racing harness. Wiring to relocate battery to the trunk. Motor mounts and brackets, factory heater. Bolt on aluminum driveshaft safety loop. Transmission cooler and kick-down linkage. Alternator and high torque starter. Spare pair of 6 cyl torsion bars (the ones that came out of the race car).
When I bought the drag car, a Holley Terminator X fuel injection unit was included with the sale. The wiring was installed in the car. I do no know if the unit was actually used (the 850 Holley double pumper was on the car when I bought it) it appears to be complete. It is included with the sale of the car.
Engine: I bought the race car to re-motor, so only took a short test drive. As I have not torn the engine down I cannot personally verify the previous owners’ claims. The engine ran strong with no unusual noises.
Quoted is the description provided by the previous owner is his ad to sell the race car.
“….508 big block…. Pump gas stroker motor with 10 to 1 compression ….. approx 550hp…… Ran a 1.55 60ft and went 7.3 in the eighth, high 11's in the quarter mile….. On the street cruising it runs 180 to 190 water temps…...Only 4 passes made at Barona 1/8 mile in San Diego and a dozen passes at Tucson Dragway….”
(I have seen the 11.9 time slip from Tucson dragway).
I believe the engine was built with a 440 Source stroker kit but I cannot verify this or the displacement.
Things I have verified:
440 block
“440 Source” stealth aluminum heads
Aftermarket push rods
Adjustable rocker arms (possibly indicating a solid lifter cam ?)
ARP head bolts
Mopar Wedge dual plane intake (P5153525)*
Aluminum water pump housing
Aluminum water pump
Holley 82851 850 CFM double-pumper carb
Mopar electronic distributor
Deep sump oil pan
*A check of availability for this manifold shows it as back order from all the sources I checked.
A short You Tube video of the engine running prior to removal is located at:
Transmission: 727 with 3000 RPM stall convertor. It does have a standard shift pattern valve body and TCI aluminum pan. The transmission shifted well and all gears engaged.
