The crank bearing clearance is too loose or the crank and/or bearings are damaged (from improper installation or use), causing a big leak into the pan before oiling the valvetrain, which is not adjustable. Thicker oil is a band aid until you can fix the bottom end, then change the oil and filter every 3000 and don't hammer on it cold.
