I ran one on my low deck 451 stroker 4 speed 65 Belvedere. Good for manual shift cars or automatic cars with a good gear such as 3.91/4.10.
As Rusty said price isn't bad for new. I have seen them used at swap meets for $100.
Got mine for $125 .No hood issues . I think you will like it.
