Kinda difficult to explain to a customer why you're charging $50 for a gasket that come with the headers, that works perfectly well.
Thats how shops get accused of overcharging, or mediocre work.
I’d explain it like these.
‘These are the gaskets that the manufacture provides. I think they are okay quality but due to their nature, construction, and thickness they can have a tendency to leak causing an annoying exhaust leak or ticking sound. I can gladly use them however I recommend Remflex which ‘guarantee’s no leaks which is a far superior product. They do cost $49.90 but we think they are worth it.
Then if you want to explain it further you can tell them your shop rate is $150/hour and if the tti ones leak, not only will tti not warranty them we wil. Also have charge however long it takes to change them out, approximately 1-1.5 hours.
Then let them choose.
I know what I would pick if a shop addressed me like that
