1972 Scamp "Smokey" - Saved From Wildfire
Finally was able to get the car to the track last Friday. Inclement weather + wildfires shut our local 1/8 mile down for most of June and July this year. It was a challenging season so I haven't been able to test.
My best time was a 7.42 while footbraking and blowing the tires off of it and letting out at 3/4 track. The car definitely has mid 6s in it if I can get it to hook. I need to monkey around with the Caltracs and the shock settings to help the weight transfer. The rear is separating too quickly and it's causing me to lose traction.
But the main thing is the car tracks straight, doesn't leak, and all systems are working. That was the goal for this 1st trip. Now I can start to dial it in.
Overall it was a great time and I met another guy with a sweet Belvedere for some Mopar vs Mopar action.
Better ETs are in my future. Just need more seat time and better weather.
Here's my other dilemma....The USCT leaf spring brackets are covering the upper hole on the Caltracs. I need access to this upper hole for tuning. My only options are to raise the overall ride height to access the hole, or I have to cut the bracket.
