Advancing Cam Question
Here's the bottom line:
-I did it w/o a wheel and indicator because I installed the cam, when I assembled the engine, several years ago, and checked it with a wheel and indicator then.
-Because I knew that it was at 108, I just moved it from the "0" to the "4*" Advanced keyway on the crank gear.
-As a result, "0" 0n the balancer moved 4*, as it should have.
-The problem is; it moved the wrong way. When TDC comes up, the cam hasn't gotten there yet. The cam should have gotten to, and passed TDC before the piston got there. Thus, 4* retarded, instead of advanced. That's the best I know how to explain this.
-The crank gear must be marked incorrectly. It is now 4* retarded. Again, I installed the crank gear on the 4* Advanced keyway, and the cam is 4* retarded.
I said I was done with it, but I'll probably take it apart again. :rolleyes::(
