In 94 the speedometer might be less dependant on a computer than you might think. It's usually a little gear that goes on the end of a speed sensor. It's mostly mechanical.

I just went through this with a 91 ford pickup and it was the gear was warped from heat.

Could be a 15 dollar fix for you like it was for me.

My 91 Escort has this type of speedo drive, and at one point the gear had removed itself from the shaft (the retainer came off) and after limping home I had to pull and split the trans (5 speed) in order to retrieve the gear! When the gear was off bouncing around in the gears shifting became difficult if not impossible, so was lucky to make it home that day!
