What kind of temp sensor is this?

I went to pull the wire out of my temp sensor and it was not a wire! It is actually a tube and a bunch of liquid started spraying out. What type of sensor is this? And can I refill it or do I need to buy a new gauge setup?

Was working fine I just took it off to paint the bay.
