Anybody ever make your own hood scoop plug?

I tried this once with extra foam I had after cutting my squares I used on the bottom of my hood so I could sit it on the roof in the pits. It looks like it would have worked fine I just worry about it getting soaked if it rains so that’s why I was thinking some trimmed foam glued to a plastic front piece.

That's basically what the factory plugs are. A piece of plastic with a couple pieces of foam (or pool noodle) glued to it, done!
I'd split the foam in the middle (for the scoop reinforcement in the middle) and then glue the two pieces as close together as possible. The reinforcement held tight by the foam will help keep it in place.
