It's tight, but, I still retained the column shift. Doesn't matter in your case, as you stated. You will really like the swap. People say it's not for the faint of heart. Reality is, you do NOT have to spend mega bucks to do a gen 3 swap. Don't be afraid to ask questions here. Lots of gen 3 knowledge. Good luck with it!!
