As a Hunters Education Instructor I get a very detailed injury accident report summary for our State prior to hunting season. In this way, we as Instructors know what to focus on in our classes. Once again last year, like the year before, falling from tree stands is the hands down winner. Average drop was 15.7 ft. We had a total of 19 injury accidents last year during hunting season. A whopping 14 of the 19 were falling from tree stands. And yep, in almost every single case the hunter was not wearing his safety harness. The majority of the rest were duck and bird hunting related. Be smart out there guys, we ain’t getting no younger and we darn sure don’t bounce like we used to!
