shot peening a distributor gear for a roller camshaft

Update, I had the melonized gear from Hughes pressed onto a stock intermediate shaft at a local machine shop. They did not press a roll pin in it. He didn't think it should need it he said it needed over 1 ton of pressure to press it on. They did not have a roll pin from the factory. Just curious if anyone has used one without a roll pin. All the heavy duty drives had a pin.

Part of that is because back in the day guys were running 50 grade oils that were as thick as clay.

The load on the drive was incredible especially on cold starts. I know Chrysler always said to use a 50 grade oil with any tunnel ram deal.

Today I run 0w20.

That being said, I have broken enough stuff that I just build more margin in than needed.

I’m that kind of chicken.
