Ted and I drove down to Hy Vee on Blairs Ferry in Cedar Rapids to check out Dave Johnson's latest barrel picks. This is one I didn't expect to like so much but you never know until you sample. It's a good thing I bought 2 bottles. This one might not last very long. This one loves to set for 15 min or so to get happy. (like most do)

Nose:
Subtle sweet with a bit of barrel char. I get some frosting and almond. (I love to call it marzipan)

Palate:
Let it set it just get's better and more complex. It starts out with caramel with a creamy feel. Black pepper, and fades into notes of cinnamon and chocolate. There's a creamy mouth feel that makes you salivate wanting more. Those flavors last as long as I am typing (and correcting the errors). Cocoa flavor fades into the long finish along with a bit of oak and caramel. It's 118.1 proof and let's you know it early in the palate with a nice mouth warming feel but no throat burning or heartburn. There's a lot going on here, just take the time with it and enjoy the ride. All the flavors are subtle and none are overbearing. I love spirits like this. Wow, after 15 min of typing this it has turned into a creamy, caramel, chocolate candy. Enjoy!Dave's Remus Pick.jpg
