I could be wrong, but here is my interpretation of the 118 cfm/sq in of valve area. That number is the current benchmark for a canted and rotated valve race head. It is not the theoretical maximum flow. The benchmark for a true hemi head would be slightly higher than 118 and the benchmark for a wedge head is slightly over 100 cfm/sq in, say 104.
Nonetheless, I agree with you. I like it when Darin gives these little nuggets for us to chew on.
As a side note,
@pittsburghracer is right there at 100 cfm/sq in on the SM heads that he is porting. If the best head porters in the world can only get to 104 on a wedge head (and I'm sure it's not a Mopar), that sort of shows how well he's doing.
