I have been working for 45 years professionally in conservation and environmental issues. It is not without some sorrow that I have come to the conclusion that the US federal government (with which I have worked side by side for all that time) would have better served us by investing the money that they have put into EV subsidies into research to solve the issues with EVs including the environmental downsides of EV and especially EV battery production. From the elephant in the garage of how to recycle the batteries to issues of exploding cars and furious EV fires that the fire services can't put out, to the environmental consequences of mining the materials for the batteries - all this should have been solved BEFORE large scale production of EVs... There is a lot of legitimate information about this (along with a lot of crap) on the internet. Here is a recent piece:
