Mopar Muscle induction Extravaganza Dyno testing SBM intakes, comparison....
First you have to realize the 6 pack was the older way of getting more cfm into the engine. Before 4bbl carbs were around. When they did come around, they were small in size. That’s why you see a Poly 318 with twin 4bbl carbs.
When the 6 pack came out for Chrysler, Holley did have bigger carbs than a 750. However, an 800 or 850 was as big as it got and it wasn’t exactly what you would use on the street for a small block of 340 ci. Not saying it wasn’t done. Just not a really good driver experience with them and the rest of a street combo.
IE; small cams and stock heads etc….
The Torker II is a single plane and not really looked after for low end torque and drivability like a dual plane. It’s two different intakes and use according.
I’ll tell you I have noticed that the single plane will fair better in the HP department and be faster at the track when camshafts exceed 255*’s @.050 and the car is light enough and the suspension is set up right to take advantage of a sizable camshaft.
All things being equal, the difference in performance makes will allow the car to go faster with a single plane, even with a loss of torque that the single plane is known for. The bigger the cam the more low end torque is lost in favor of high rpm hp, where the single plane will rule the day.
The 6 pack is the ultimate induction flexable enough to drive the street like grandma’s car yet be able to deliver mid 11 second drag strip times. While the dyno numbers tell you one thing, actual real world driving the two intakes are a bit different than what the dyno is telling you.
I like this test. It isn’t exactly what I’d call the truth due to the above paragraph on drivability but, it does also show that the Torker II isn’t as bad as reported here by many as good for nothing but a door stop. This isn’t true at all but I do suggest you treat it as a single plane that delivers a lack of good useable low end torque and it will work very well with a sizable camshaft.
Personally, I would use a cam smaller than 250*’s @.050 not matter what the dyno says. FWIW, port the Torker II & use a spacer on the carb for more plenum and high rpm power.
Also IMO, the Holley Street Dominator wasn’t properly used and should not have been included in this test since the engine build is basically, very - under-whelming for such an intake.
