Post your 12 second small block combos
Just doing a little internet bench racing here. I'm sorting out a 340 on paper using the old "How To Hot Rod Small Block Mopars" tables in the back of the book. I want to get into the 12's. The tables are basically saying use a TQ or Holley 7-850, headers, (duh) Holley Strip Dominator/M1, the MP .528 solid cam and an electronic distributor.
I'm curious though as to how you got into the 12's with your small block A-body. Looking for non-stroker stuff here - 3.31" arm only.
Please list engine specs like cam, compression, head choice, ported or not, valve size, carb, pistons etc., chassis/trans/driveline, tire size, weight of the car if you know it and any other pertinent info.
Pics are good too!
Son...this hobby is expensive any way you slice it. Mopar is almost double the cost of most other brands, however the tall deck & exhaust ports of a non hemispheric cylinder head. All and any old stock parts are 100% junk. Yes sir these x & J heads are boat anchors as its 2024 not 1969. Now w2 heads were great heads for racing but super expensive...I built a set! Stock stroke is for matching numbers ! A budget is a budget yes. A stroker crank is worth twice its cost. The tall deck of most mopar has a fetish with more stroke. The stock vacume signals are second to none, more stroke quadruple that ,thus huge intake capabilities, then the exhaust valve design is already steps ahead , follow or not its OK but this is all data and analytics. I see some with huge intakes and fancy carburetors! Junk! A fast xfi is nothing short of perfection. As we all do and it's true as the nose on your face....
While you sit on the can reading about Google bench racing STOP JUST STOP! I see all the googlecation clowns on here trying to build a record breaking engine with no money or cheap bastards. It is what it is. A 340 block, nice. Bore n shorter stroke in the family, a 4" stroke and a clean bore done with a plate can be a 408-416 ! Edelbrock heads with a wise port job not Johnny with his die grinder, a street roller cam ,converter ,8 3 quarter with a good 727 and thin snap rings aka 5 clutch disc's. 5.o lever n deep pan.
Nothing less then mid 10's on pump gas.
Why **** away good money on the monkey with an extra g or so you can have the open grinder.
Take it as you will but asking bench racers or slow time slips questions will only get you tail lights.
THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FPR DISPLASMENT! TORQUE SON TORQUE!
HORSEPOWER is only a mathematical equation. Short block, what is a perfect cam? This is the queof all questions, with a winning answer. A lumpy idle or etc is not the answer. Big single plane intakes are usually junk in lower rpm. No need to rev a stroker engine on pump gas as the torque the byproduct. No one in real race world gives secrets , I'm retired lol. Ask some of our mopar kings like Mr Barton, muscle motors, etc. Try Indy cylinder heads, they aren't much of a technical help verbally but probably the best products for mopar.
Kind regards.
