checking rear end housing straightness
Lay two wheels or wheels with tires flat on the floor, at the approximate width if the rear end.
Place the rearend (with the axles in it and wheels and tires bolted on) into the wheels on the floor. This will keep the rear end from rolling around.
You will need an assistant to string a tape measure from top center of tire to top center of the other tire on the rear end housing. Do this by hooking one end of the tape in the tread of the tire and the other end use a marker or piece of tape for a reference point on the tire.
While your assistant is holding the tape measure, rotate the pinion with your hand until the pinion is parallel with the ground. Take a width measurement from tire to tire and record.
Rotate the pinion until it's is pointing at the sky. Record this measurement.
Continue to rotate until the pinion is parallel with the ground and pointing in the opposite direction from where you started. Record this measurement.
If the rear end is straight, all three measurements will be the same. Please report back with your findings.
PS You should be on a floater.
