So I'm at a stall. The only valve spring mics I have go 1.6 - 2.2, so I don't have room to install the valve locks to measure the valve stem height. I gotta get the shorter mic, so I'm held up for a bit. Oh well.

Checking IH with a mic? Do you wear a top hot and gold chain for assembly?

You have options.

1) Stack washers under retainer, measure washers with dial caliper or micrometer.

2) make a spacer of known length out of pipe and use valve spring shims to fine tune the measurement

3) Use a ruler or yard stick

It's not a space ship.
