Players in all positions are more elite then they were. 1st base for example for the hard hitting lards(for most part) are now way better athletes.

True... Although we're starting to see the DH rule used to give a player a rest day from the field, it did allow for some players to hang on a couple more years where they might have had to retire or leave baseball
