If you use a "Dumbell" lifter in a 273 with a big cam, you can loose oil pressure. When a cam is ground, the larger the lift, the smaller the base circle. Whit a small base circle, the lifter can drop far enough so the dumbell groove goes low enough to bleed oil pressure out of the lifter bore. I found this out back in the "70's with the first 273 I built. Used a Crane cam with around .550 lift, and couldn't make hardly any oil pressure. Finally found the problem by removing the oil pan, and running the oil pump with a drill. We coul;d see the oil leaking from the lifter bore on the lifters that were on the base circle. Had to use the straight side lifters. This is another reason for using the "kit" to sleeve/bush the lifter oil galleys.
