Welcome aboard, I agree with all the comments above, your car should be a great project and a tribute to your late father, as mentioned above first things first is to get the electric sorted out. Like 4spdragtop said now your introduction is done move over to the electrical forum and post your questions there, let's start by finding out what basic tools you have and how much maintenance you are prepared to do. You will need a basic ( it can be inexpensive, Harbour Freight or what ever you guys use down there ) multimeter , this tool will become your best friend with a old car and probably ride with you where ever you go. Then a basic socket and wrench set plus screw drivers, a few electrical test leads, again HF or make them. With those tools you will tackle most of the basic maintenance.
