Rubber tip on the brake rod

Cass does sell them on his eBay listing for $10 and free shipping. Shows out of stock at the moment.

Call him, I bet he’ll work with you on your shipping.

Exactly. That was just the online shop, with NO STATE entered. It’s the lowest cost programmed into the website for a lower 50 box, regardless of size and weight.

Cass could likely get it to you for less if you called him.
Come on, man. Sometimes it just feels wrong to pay through the *** for something so damned simple. The grommets probably cost less than a dollar each to make but somehow it is acceptable to pay 20 times that to buy one and have it mailed to you?
I retired from construction making over $60/hr plus all benefits so I know that nobody works for free. A reasonable person should be willing to pay a reasonable price. If an envelope and postage is $3 and the grommet itself retails for $3, why the extreme inflation of the price?
We have all seen instances where shipping rates have exploded but ....

Almost $14 to ship it?
Even their smallest flat rate box is $11.00 and you could fit 500 of those grommets in it.

LOL, someone is spoiled!

From my house it’s a 40 mile round trip to the local parts house. So, driving my Duster down to pick up a part myself frequently costs more in fuel than having a part shipped to my doorstep, and that doesn’t count the hour of my time I spend doing it.

Again, the flat shipping rate from the website didn’t have an address is state entered, it’s likely NOT what DoctorDiff would actually charge for shipping.

And yeah, I don’t see it as an unreasonable cost anyway. Has to be pulled off a shelf, put in a box, packed and taped, label printed, dropped off or picked up, shipped in a way that has tracking because otherwise someone will claim they didn’t get it and leave a shitty review, etc., etc.

Yeah, the part is a couple bucks, but you’re using time and infrastructure to order and ship that part, and that cost is more than that particular part. That’s why a lot of places have a minimum order, because there’s a cost involved with filling ANY order regardless of the part ordered. Not hard to figure out if you’ve ever run a small business.

yes, but... you still gotta pay somebody to pick it, box it up, print off the label and tape up the box.

brewer's absolutely murdered me on a speedo gear, but that's the price of admission. they have the website, they have the part, they have to pay to stock it, they have to pay for somebody to throw it in a box and send it my way.

it is what it is, and i'll gladly pay that extra few bucks knowing that i'm supporting a business that supports our hobby. i remember the dark ages of getting on the phone and tracking down parts and sending cash or checks via USPS and waiting weeks hoping the right stuff showed up. that extra $5 on the shipping is the tax i'll pay for having more parts than we've ever hoped right at our fingertips delivered quickly.

Exactly.

Well lets see. That little piece could go in an envelope, they have a box of them, so each one costs $.05, a stamp costs what now days $.55 or so for delivery, the part is worth $.25, the USPS guy delivers them mail and pics up the outgoing envelope for nothing. Go figure!!?

Nope. As pointed out that won’t work with basic envelope and stamp.

And as a business, there’s no way an order should be shipped untracked. It’s a liability for the business, some lousy customer will claim they didn’t get a part, there’s no way to prove it showed up if it’s not tracked, now you’ve got to ship another one and eat the costs and maybe a bad review. Not good business practice to protect yourself or provide good customer service in today’s day and age.

As some know I'm making unobtanium parts for our cars. If I was to account for the CAD design time, Benefits, Electricity, Water, Nat Gas, Space Rent, My time to have the parts produced, my time to finish some of the parts, my time to process an order, my time to package the order, the cost of packaging, my time to get it to a shipper, the shipping costs, Insurance, LLC costs, Fed, State and local tax costs and fees, I would have to charge hundreds for a $2.00 part. If I was making and SELLING 100,000 of each part that would be a different thing, I would be able to sell the $2.00 part for $25.00 to $50.00.

I would love to do this for a living but it is financially not feasible!

It really does not matter the cost to produce the part, be it $0.50 or $50.00, or your perceived value of the part or how much the part retails for, the overhead and shipping are going to be a basically fixed cost per item sold.

Keep in mind none of us are getting any younger, the parts we buy will out live us.

On small parts that are inexpensive when posable buy them with other stuff even if I don't need them right now.

As to $10.00 shipping on a $2.00 part, sometimes its the cost of our hobby, can a home made part work perfectly fine, sure and I have done it several times.

And I am in no way pointing fingers at anyone or questioning their decisions
, I too have experienced the same thing, in fact I just spent 32.00 for a plastic water squirter for my minivan. I saw generic parts for $5.00 but opted for an OEM style part. It will fit better and look stock.

Exactly. Some people think stuff just happens for free.
