Trading New MT drag radials for sand paddle tires
One would think that the Lone Star state of Texas being 268,000 square miles that drag strips would be every 50 miles or so as it is in the Northern states. Well that is not so............ and the closest track is a 4.5-5 hour tow from my shop with another facility being 3 hours South called Edinburg Motorsports Park which has been sketchy on being open .....or permanently closed. Edinburg Motorsports Park is a closer track but whether they are going to run or not run is very sketchy at best with some Racers from San Antonio Texas been told on the phone there was going to be racing one particular Saturday recently only to find out that the city (who owns the property the track is on) was not in the mood that day after racers arrived.......only to be turned away......................after being told yes they were going to run that weekend only to find out differently after making the tow to be turned away. with this information had been posted on Facebook alerting racers of a Test n Tune day/ Evening. Details to this reality are still unfolding ........This is a long story....... packed with BS
Last night my local dirt track facility hoisted a big special event race where they paid out over $8,000 total to all classes..... hosting everything from Dwarf cars to Late Models. There was lots of Motor toters and stacker trailers scattered throughout the pits all wanting a piece of the pie ..........
The track owners (with some help from one of my buddies) somehow knew I had a street/ strip car with a whole lot of interest in wanting a drag racing facility here in my local area. I was asked about sand drag racing on a 300-foot coarse and if I would set in on a meeting possibly assisting with setting up such a facility on their grounds. Having been to multiple sand drag races in California but not knowing the in's/ & outs of setting up such a facility nor the SCSDA/ISDA rules etc. My sheer interest was enough to still be asked to sit in on a meeting concerning the possibility of this happening.
I am toying with the idea....... Why not blast down a 300 foot coarse in the Duster with sand tires on it with 3 foot flames out the exhaust from the NOS system being flogged to it with less than an hour's drive to the track.... ......... Hell yeah! Why not !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Texas Red
