What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?
My avatar Demon sits a tad too high for my taste in the rear when the P295/55-R15 Mickey street tires are on it. It's fine at the track with the 28/10.5-15W bias slicks are on it so I'm trying to strike a balance on rear height between the two. It has a CalTrac split mono leaf setup but rather than buy new rear leafs for ride height adjustment, I'm moving the front spring eye bolt to an upper one that is in the front hanger. By my calcs, this should drop the rear about 1/2".
Well, not so fast...because that then changes the pinion angle (makes it point higher). So to address it and get it back to where it is today (about 1.4 deg total diff between trans and pinion assuming a 2 degree pinion rise on acceleration), I'm adding a 2 degree set of shims to nose down the pinion which, according to my measurements, will net my new overall total difference in angles to 0.8 degrees, even better than today. Now will it sit better and will the measurements pan out, I'll have to wait until it's all reassembled. Because anytime I tear into something, I find I have to clean it and paint it up to at least look better! Which adds quite a bit to the work. :realcrazy:
Of course my wife says I'm nuts since the car works very well at the track. But what the heck, these are the kinds of things we do for fun so I gotta give it a try! And I can always pull the shims and put it back to where it is...I hope!
Anyhow, here's a shot underneath where I stopped today. And no, that is not what the pinion will look like once reassembled! The axle is just sitting on jack stands sorta hanging nose down for now.
