From what I have seen reconditioning them the Later style are different and to me look stronger. I noticed the difference when cutting them for the lock nut adjuster.
Some need to be cut deeper depending on the adjuster style and lock nut your using. I used MAX wedge adjusters that I have here. Many don't cut the surface at all for the lock nut when using longer adjusters. But while machining them I found that they are not all parallel and the nut does not fit flush on the raw forged surface.
Banana Rocker shafts are also different through years.
