You can get the tank coated, to prevent leaking.
Yeah I had that leak happen to my old 78 d300. I sent it in and had it repaired and coated. No more problems

I have the stock tank from my 63 falcon (same as mustang) and it’s in wonderful shape, and the sender works with the mopar gauge. I’ve already investigated what the “go to” frame mounted tank is and the mustang is one of the options. Mine doesn’t leak at all, it’s got all new lines and clamps and a new sending unit and there are zero gas smells inside. I think that’s short lived though as they all do those things eventually.
