putting a ford 5.0 in a 72 Dart

The 3G Hemi is a great engine but hoooooo-leee crap, it isn't as cheap as you'd hope.
I looked at the costs to do an installation in a '70 Charger. The mounts and exhaust are the easy part. When you look at the front end accessory drive, the computer to run the EFI. the fuel system changes too...The swap can run $6000 IF you have a FREE engine.

I am currently at $4316.44 for my swap and that includes a $400 core motor, my fuel tank with pump and a full exhaust. It also includes a 6.4 intake, 6.4 cam/springs, several harnesses to cut down and combine, used PCM and everything to bolt it into the car.

But I'm not done and running. I am projecting about $6K after re-ringing the motor, FEAD and radiator and a tune. Not far off your number except mine will include the motor. And there is still the possibility that the core motor will cost me more than I am projecting.

I should add that prices have gone up over time, too. I got my Holley headers when they were $500, they are over $700 now, the stainless exhaust was a $400 deal, and my 6.4 intake was a killer $300 deal that even included the injectors. Not sure where the Holley pan and mounts are now either. So I am not saying anyone could duplicate my costs, only that it maybe isn't always as expensive as people make it out to be.

I'm also not including any of the cost for my T56 Magnum kit.
