Early engine bay decal placement

To repeat a restoration joke that has been passed around for a while: For authentic sticker placement, have the car roll past you at a slow walk and try to slap the sticker on when it's moving, to accurately re-create the assembly line process.
…and then spend $20,000 getting Crayola or Prang to custom-make you a crayon in what you think is the exact right colour to scrawl a line on the rear axle cover, just like the inspector on the build line half a century ago. Because as everybody who's anybody knows, back then that colour was a closely-guarded company secret, like the recipe for Coca-Cola or what goes into the Colonel's secret blend of 11 herbs and spices*. Only that colour would do; if the crayon broke or got used up, and there wasn't another one in the factory, the line was shut down immediately. And it stayed down until that exact, correct colour of crayon could be procured, because no other colour would do.
