Hood Mounted Tach

The early Pontiac tach is the smaller of the two and built by Delco. The later tach is taller than them and were built by Dixco. The Dixco was the one used mostly by Mopar ("Hustle Stuff"), Ford and some GM cars. Mopar and Ford never made them they just sold them over the parts counter. So it depends on the one you have. I believe all went to 8000 rpm but the red line was different on the face. I have had them apart and you can switch out the face plate but they are delicate so be careful. The OEM tachs were not that great. The Delco were problematic, the Dixco were the better of the two. The aftermarket ones are much more accurate and have better electronics that make them even better. So to answer your question, yes it can be done.
