Stop in for a cup of coffee

I learned early in life about insulated water lines. My dad was a ready mix plant operator for numerous years for a contractor building the I 40 as it crossed the mighty Mojave Desert. I used to go hang out with him during Christmas Vacation. My first chores in the dark before sunup were to light the smudge pots he had for keeping his water flowing for the concrete plant, about 6 of those stinky things
I was surprised to hear from my niece that their waterlines were in uninsulated outside walls. Here lies the problem. Here in Iowa everything is ran from the middle of the house outward. Even the outside water spigots are all sillcocks, and the valves themselves are at least a foot inside the foundation wall.
