Heater Hoses

There is no valve. Airflow diverter. Air into car or air out. There is always water flowing through the heater core. Yes, sometimes people in warm climates remove them. It's just a small radiator. Wonder if their cars ever run warmer after doing that.
Ahh, I missed the point you are making entirely, because I changed out the factory heater box for an aftermarket A/C with heater evaporator from Vintage Air. Their aftermarket system uses an electronically controlled valve to shut off the water flow to their heater core.

I've had other cars with a cable operated shut off valve, but didn't notice that many cars don't use one and use the air diverter instead.
