dumb question my boy asked
I generally am very polite when ever I have been pulled over and it has been beneficial to me more than once. Shortly after moving to Alberta my wife and I took a day trip down to Kalispell Montana in our 1976 Pontiac Ventura. We also had our 2 dogs with us, it was a warm summer day, and of course the Ventura does not have air conditioning.
The trip was really enjoyable, if a little warm at times, however, we decided to take the highway through Glacier National Park on our way back home. I had read that the park was quite a sight to see, and since we both enjoy nature, we thought it might be a nice trip. What we didn't know was just how much the road winds through the park, and while the views are quite spectacular, my wife is terrified of heights, like, really terrified. She is soon in a full on panic from fear, and had laid down on the seat with a large road atlas over her head screaming "get me off of this f'ing road!"
Meanwhile, I'm trying to take in the scenery, and have a large dog panting in my ear besides. We finally get out of the twisty roads with the sheer drop off cliffs and back on fairly level ground, but of course she's completely stressed out, I'm a little frustrated, and getting tired and hungry, it's been about a 12 hour day now, and still have a large dog panting in my ear.
As we get closer to home, my foot gets heavier on the accelerator, and the speedometer gets well into the excessive range. Then we pass an unmarked RCMP cruiser going the opposite direction, I glance down at the speedometer and I'm doing about 80 mph in a 60 zone. Damn! I look in the rear view mirror and sure enough the cruiser is on the brakes and looking like it's going to turn around, so I immediately pulled over and shut the car off. The officer gets out of the car and my wife says, "it's a female cop, you're screwed now."
She walks up, asks if the dogs are friendly and if she can pet them, I tell her yes, they are, then she asks me about the car, takes my license and insurance, which were still Manitoba issued and heads back to her car. After about 5 minutes she comes back, hands me my license back and thanks me for stopping immediately. I'm waiting for the ticket, but instead she says "I just want to let you know you can't drive that fast on this highway."
