Guns, Dogs and Blades QnA
So today I gathered my courage and dove into the Warn on line calculator for rings. I needed some rings for a new build. I have a beaut 300 Win Mag that has needed glass for a year or so. Finally found a nice used Mil Dot rig for a great price. Yes I know it is old fashioned and won’t talk to my watch or have blue tooth, but frankly it has Mil Dot and that is all I need. 6x20x50 second focal plane with parallax. And dust covers! Hah! Once I get the rings here which I figure are a at best 50/50 odds for correct fit I will post a pix. The rifle has absolute stunning wood, again I know, I know, synthetic is better. But I love a nice piece of wood on a rifle. I think the only thing I got for sure correct was the 30mm tube! My calculations for height of rings is I fear suspect! I like my optics as low as I can get on barrel. And I need ample room to run bolt. At times a competing set of objectives? Yes I am a picky scope mounting kind of guy. Plus I don’t want a bunch of extra weight, but prefer a forgiving eye relief span. Not that I am picky or anything. Man do I ever miss the day where the shops carried a zillion rings and you could do mock-ups! Side bar any of you guys ever need old traditional rings ping me. I bought a old school gun shops entire inventory of scope rings/bases when they closed the doors. I got old and obscure but no picatinny! Hah!
