318 hard parts suggestions
and another dream shattered by the insensitive old line.
OP
how about telling us
what you already have under the hood, and
and why you don't like it, and
what stuff you have already bought, and
Also include the other statistics like;
transmission, rear gears, tire size, and current stall, if you can. and How heavy is the doggone truck.
Put everything on the same page so we don't have to go hunting.
The cam you chose, is advertised 45 degrees bigger than the stock LA 318 cam, that's about 6 sizes, which is right on the edge of being a race-cam. The operating rpm of such a cam is gonna be about 1000 rpm higher than stock cam, and it takes a good deal of bottom end away, forcing you to keep up with either;
1) a much higher stall, or
2) much higher rear gears, or
3) some combination of the two. AND
4) a significant increase in Cylinder pressure.
Those items alone will add very significant over-run costs to the project. And there's a good chance that if the 727 in not rebuilt asap, with performance parts, it will blow up. And for sure you will need a Sure-grip, and probably some anti-wheel-hop measures.
Were you anticipating that?
As to cylinder pressure, That cam wants a lot of Compression ratio, pressure that the stock heads even on a Zero-deckheight, cannot deliver, and even if they could, they would be a severe choke for a 285* cam.
So, pretty much, that 285 cam, demands some hi-flow heads with small chambers, and a static compression ratio of close to or over 11/1, with iron heads.
Were you anticipating that?
The same guys that shredded your dream, are however, the guys who can really help you; so be patient
