FUEL TANK INSTALLATION ORDER

Not to add to the confusion but allow me to add my experience on my 71 Demon 340 in case it helps someone else too. This car was originally ordered and delivered in the Cleveland, OH, area. So it was NOT a California emissions car. Nonetheless, it came with the 4-vent tank and the standpipe in the trunk that matches to that.

I did a thread on my tale of fuel tank woes back in April 2022.
Another Fuel tank thread - 71 Demon

The summary of that thread was during my restoration, I got the AMD tank for a 71 Demon #890-1071. It had the C11E designation but came with only the single vent near the sending unit opening. Oops - my bad, my car has the 4-vent pipe system and I wasn't smart enough to crawl under and look at the old tank prior to ordering and painting my new tank. So then I ordered a second AMD tank #890-1070-4 which has the CR11D designation stamped into it along with the proper 4 vent pipes. So I painted up that tank ready for installation. But then, oh no...when I went to install this second 4-vent tank, there was no way to get the fill pipe in it and through the trunk floor heavy rubber seal and align it to the quarter panel. NO WAY! I would have needed to severely buckle the quarter panel in order to make it line up! No amount of moving the tank would get it to line up. The location of the fill pipe in the tank hole was definitely not in the correct location.

So then I tried the incorrect single vent/CR11E tank and lo and behold it all aligned up perfectly. So that's what I used. Like I mentioned, I documented all of this when I was going through it in my old thread shown above. So my conclusion from all of this was if you have a later-built 71 Demon, you need the 11E tank but with whatever vent tube arrangement your car has. Not sure if anyone makes that 11E tank with the 4 vent pipes but at the time I did mine, I could not locate one like that. It wasn't funny at the time, but in looking back at pics on my kitchen floor, I had 3 fuel tanks (one was the original tank) and one unhappy wife as we tried to figure out what the heck was going on!!!
