While on the subject of argent/silver(a few threads lately), I've decided to repaint the grill on our 67 barracuda. Anyone got a pic and a code for the silver? I used a Duplicolor(one with green tape) and it seems too "silvery". Not sure I like it, before I clearcoat it or paint the rest of the grill I would like to find something a little more subtle. Suggestions? 1st 2 pics show my ds bezel on left. Pass side I've painted is on right(1st 2 pics)
3rd pic shows another bezel i have compared with my freshly painted one.
Thanks folks.

For a long time Krylon Dull Aluminum was the go-to color for instrument bezels, it might be worth looking into.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure there are actually 2 "silvers" used on the grill? (Just the bezels). The metal that is chromed and then painted(goes around headlight) appears grey. The part that "surrounds" and meets up with the center grill appears silver? 1st pic I'm pointing at 2 different spots, 2nd pic they're side by side.

When I was looking for paint for my '69 headlight rings at the local Ace Hardware, I tried several shades of Rustoleum and Krylon.
Most of what they had in stock was too bright or way too dark.
I settled for this as it's not too big a deal to remove 'em and repaint.....

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would come out. A dull silver so I'm pretty happy with it.
The best close picture I have of one right now...........

Looks great to me Steve

Thanks George. My concern would be once all the pieces are painted, the silver i used would be "too much"??
Also I painted the round metal HL the same silver, but oem appears to be more of a gray with next to no metallic.
Maybe I'm being too picky lol.

I have to assume the grill in the Wife's '67 Formula S is OE. One colour and I'd say identical to the argent of my 69 Bee grill. I restored it with the paint shown, then bought an NOS grill and you couldn't see any difference between them.

Looking at it in pictures... it does appear the outer "C" is a bit darker and sparkly than the rest. So close..

Thanks Wayne, on my bezels the round metal part around headlights seems "flatter" and more gray than the "C". But who knows with parts being 60+ years old now whether they're faded or been painted lol. The center grill was the NOS piece?
Thanks again!

No the grill in my 69 Bee I restored, then found the only NOS grill assembly I've ever seen in 40+ years and swapped it out. It was identical to that paint I show above and fairly certain the same Argent as the 67 grill.

Got the rest of pass side grill removed. We got so lucky with it being a Cali car. Everything came undone, there are a couple messed up studs tho. Not sure how deep I'm gonna go with it, this is as far as I can disassemble without having to redo rivets. Altho that would take the resto to another level.
I would imagine the center aluminum piece with honeycomb is anodized as well??
Appears to be fading in spots.

The brides grill looks stunning! I figured that's where the NOS piece was lol.
Is that the original anodizing on inner and outer pieces?

What I was told is the car sat in an Alberta dealers show room for a good 40 years. They had painted it two tone and when acquired it was fully blown apart, repainted correctly and put back together. I could have been blown smoke by the seller, but being a date correct car on every piece of the drive train I have to believe it. Odometer is at 3605 miles now, after a few more cruises for a beer last Fall.

So rummaging thru parts I found some new hardware. I haven't measured the tube rivets to be sure there oem sized.
1st I need to find a cheap tubular rivet "squeezer". I have the "normal" blind rivet and may resort to that style of rivet.
Any suggestions for tubular rivet style?
Thanks
Steve

Give me a bit.. I'll find you the tool I bought to do my Ramcharger hood box. Only about 20 bucks, also used for leather craft.

Here's the set... you just have to back it up with a bucking bar or block of steel. Thought I had a picture of the package... I'll have to grab that tomorrow, if I remember where I put it! LOL
