Speaking of period correct. I got my Garand put back together today. I got rained out so it beckoned to me! I may be a bit geeky, but when working on firearms I only do it when I want to, not when I have time. I have to be sure I am in the right frame of mind for very slow, meticulous work. If I am not in that gear I don’t mess with them. Anyway the Garand is done with original period correct sling. Again, huge shout out to the guys on this thread for both suggestions on refinishing material and also methodology advice. I sanded till my arm fell off with 600 grit! But man did she turn out great! I also added a pix of my go to reference on M1 and M14
