70 dart 470 ci drag car build.

I installed and degree'd the new cam in today.
Not the 1st time I did it, last time was in highschool so I forgot.
I used a calculator to find the center of the overlap triangle close as my timing set would get is 106.5 icl.
I tried 3 different advance keyways & each one retarded the cam further.
It didn't help that I failed to do my math correctly on the 1st try. I came up with 102 when it was really 112 so, finally I said to myself retarding the crankshaft will advance the cam.
Since newbomb was probably busy, I bothered him about my findings. He told me the same thing right after I changed the timing gear the last time lol.
Checking piston to valve clearance in a day or two.

Back in the claimer days we had to do everything cheap as possible. There was a $325 claim on the whole engine and $25 went to the guy running the wrecker to pull it after the race. We were racing small block chevys. We would save the good gears and chains out of the motors we tore down. We would drill out the bolt holes and the locating pin hole by hand ( no drill press then) and use an offset bushing in the locating hole to get the cam where we thought it had to be. Seemed like they never moved the cam the amount the were supposed to. A lot of trial and error to get it right.
